that's a wrap.

The end of the OC era is upon us. I'm about to admit something that may seem completely absurd, but - I CRIED. It was sad! Well, it wasn't ALL sad, but some of it was, and it was all SO GOOD!

They did a fab job of wrapping things up - the Cohens end up back at their old house, Ryan goes to Berkeley and ends up on his way to becoming the next Sandy Cohen, Seth and Summer FINALLY get MARRIED, and Team Julie comes through in the clutch - remember in 90210 when Kelly Taylor has to choose between Dylan and Brandon and she chooses herself instead? Julie Cooper chooses a college degree over Bullet and Frank. Good times.

I'm having trouble letting this show go, so for the time being, I have the finale saved on my DVR... I may have to watch it at least one more time before I give up on it.

Mind you I still haven't even deleted December's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show yet!

and then there was one.

Work's still a bear, and leaves me in a mentally exhausted state that makes it hard to care about anything, but as I frantically tried to catch up on tv this weekend I came to the sad realization that I DO still care about tv! And watching the second to last episode of The OC made me VERY SAD. There is only ONE episode left! One of my favoritest shows, gone forever. Boooooo.

i hate mondays

I am have a terrible start to my week for a variety of reasons I will spare you the gory details of. Because of the bad mood this has caused, I'm protesting work (even though work only accounts for a tiny portion of why I'm cranky) and opting to vent here instead. Figure maybe if I can distract myself by talking about tv, that lessens the risk that I take out my crankiness on someone at work, because nobody needs that. Unfortunately, I hardly have much to talk about. Love, love LOVE my new tv, but have spent most of my time utilizing it to watch football rather than tv shows. I have only watched one episode of last week's OC doubleheader, so I can't comment much there aside from the fact that Adam Brody continues to steal my heart episode after episode, season after season. I'll reserve the rest of my commentary on that until after I watch the second episode from last week, since I have a feeling whatever happened in that episode may make my commentary irrelevant.

Other than that, I have been a terrible tv watcher in terms of anything other than sports. Football in HD is mesmerizing...

3 more days...

...til i return to tv. Time Warner shows up saturday to hook me up with some bad ass HD cable service. Combined with my super cool double recliner leather sofa, I may never leave my apartment again. ever. I will have cable in time for the season premiere of the OC on November 2nd! wooohoo! Life after Marissa is the storyline for season 4, and it'll be totally fascinating I'm sure.

Life without regular tv (aside from what I've been catching on the DVR that still resides at my old home) has been strangely refreshing, but I gotta tell you, I am SO looking forward to having it back in my life, as it will be bigger and better. And there will be FOOTBALL! Good times.

state of affairs

Not that this is new, but have you people noticed that my tv blog isn't really much of a tv blog anymore? Its a tv/no-tv/sports/drinking/etc. blog. Oh well. I can blog about whatever the heck I feel like blogging about. Case in point, today I would like to talk about the disaster known as the NY Yankees:
- Terrence Long? Seriously, they might as well just put the bat boys in the game at this point.
- Watching the Yankees implode against their opponents night after night after night is kind of like being forced to watch a train wreck. It's a good thing I'm not a bandwagon fan, because otherwise I'd probably be jumping off right about now and running after the Mets bandwagon. RUNNING for dear life.
- When are players going to stop playing the shift against Jason Giambi? They showed the hit numbers, but I'm still not buying that the shift is worth it. Someone needs to sell that one to me.
- Happy to see Posada and his cute dumbo ears back in the lineup. He had me worried after the weekend, thought he was going to end up in the same camp as Sheffield and Matsui. and Chacon. Bubba. Pavano. Sturtze. Torre's neighbor. My dog. Oh wait, I don't have a dog.
- Anyone have any idea what the deal with Andy Phillips is? I'm a fan. Where do I find him?

To keep this at least a semi-tv blog, because I'm sure nobody cares about my sports ramblings:
I watched the season finale of the OC last nite. They totally killed Marissa off the show. I mean, I knew that already from reading about it, but seeing it was... well, kind of weird, because the way she died was kind of pointless. You know why it was pointless? Because I did not buy into that car chase/crash at ALL. I'm really pissed that they expect viewers to buy that. The car was TOTALLY smushed (hope Ryan's mom had time to get insurance on that before giving it to him as a gift), and Ryan didn't have a scratch on him. Neither did Marissa for that matter! And I think I would have been walking away from the car a LITTLE faster (i.e., running, not walking) if I saw gas was leaking and it was about to explode. He didn't even flinch when it exploded! And when did Volchok become the clingy, needy, desperate ex-boyfrined-type anyway. I certainly do NOT believe that Marissa is the type of girl that could turn him into one. She's not that good.

the downside of dvr

I attempted to have a life this weekend instead of staying holed up in front of my tv playing catch-up. And managed to not find out the outcome of any shows I didn't want to find out the outcome of until I watched it. My attempts were for naught as Andrea emailed me this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/21/fashion/sundaystyles/21Television.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

I did indeed identify with the article, but ironically, it ruined the season of finale of the OC for me in the way only the Times can because of what the article was about. yeesh. So I have not yet watched the season finale of OC, even though I now know what the shocker was, and now its like - is it even worth watching? Probably not, but of course I will anyway. It just won't be as fun anymore. It's totally what I get for letting 4 days go by and still not watching the show. To the point of the article, the one saving grace of repeat season coming up after May Sweeps is that I won't have to attempt to balance tv, baseball AND having alife. Just baseball and having a life. My dvr gets a little vacation time. And I can continue to plan my vegas trip and the rest of my summer in peace. good times.

Tonight's debacle is the battle between the 2-hour season finale of 24 and the Yankees-Red Sox series. these are the things that keep me up at night.

what a wonderful world

Okay, first of all, about last week's OC that I just watched last night -- could Seth Cohen possibly be ANY more of a douchebag?

Second agenda item -- new season of My Super Sweet Sixteen. No matter how much I watch this show, I still always find myself utterly stunned and astounded at each new episode. It never ceases to amaze me how incredibly awful these kids are. Such a train wreck, and I can't stop watching.

About 24 -- this show is completely out of control. I can NOT deal with President Dumb Ass. I also couldn't help but think what a shame it was that Audrey's pretty white coat was getting all soaked in blood. Good luck to her dry cleaners with that one. And there was so much drama around him and Secretary Heller and Robocop and the recording that I think people forget about the fact that Aaron has gone missing. Aaron where are you??!

And now, on to the present. Rod Stewart week on AI:

Chris - This is the guy that makes me want to vote. So guess what? I voted! It helps that he wasn't wearing the scary eye makeup he had on last week.
Paris - I swear she is a 40 year old woman in a little person's body.
Taylor - Hmm, Rod Stewart songs actually quite suit him. He SOUNDS like Rod Stewart. Weird.
Elliott - It had to be you. I went from originally thinking this guy was a total chump to loving this kid.
Kellie - I'm mostly just embarrassed for her at how she was acting when rehearsing with Rod. The singing? bleh.
Ace - Uhh, the suit and the hairdo were so distracting I honestly can't remember what he sang. I don't think I enjoyed it very much.
Katharine - She's so good looking I'm not even sure it matters whether or not she can sing. As it happens, she can. She is excellent. But you know, I'm just saying.

Overall, a very good night for mostly all of the contestants. Ace is going home tonight. He must.go.home. and btw, what's with the random "stars" in the audience? Michael Rapaport was my favorite. so random. heh.

bizarre love triangle

it's 11AM in 24-time, and i am as always amazed at the advanced technology in use by CTU. Spencer is so in trouble. (though he was making great use of his sidekick -- seems to be all the rage on fox tv shows these days, they must have gottena bulk discount on them or something) and Chloe is so dumping his ass, even though he's really just a fake bad guy...for now anyway. i was hoping he was going to start crying at the end when he said he thought he was working for the president. he sounded like he wanted to, but then the camera cut away from him, so i didn't get t see if he did or not. did he really think he was working for the prez though? like, seriously?

pretty awkward love triangle involving audrey, diane and kiefer, no? i like that audrey. she started to irk me towards the end of season 4, but now i'm a fan. and diane is super whiny and hurts my ears, i think kiefer and audrey should totally start hooking up again.

oh, and evelyn? so getting fired soon. she is doing a god awful job of keeping an eye on crazy martha.

and on a side note - i don't care what anyone says, i love the OC this season. its not nearly as intense and dramatic as it was in earlier seasons, but i am very much enjoying the melodrama. the coopers living in a trailer park? very endearing.

Best Chrismukkah Bar Mitzvukkah Ever!

I don't usually ever get to watch shows the same night it actually airs, but since I was up late last night waiting for updates on the pending MTA strike, around 10pm the urge to watch the OC Chrismukkah 2005 hit me, and so it goes. Aside from this awful side story line of Johnny turning bad and trying to hold up a mini mart, it was indeed a happy chrismukkah in the OC. Seth wears a reindeer sweater but redeems himself by coming up with the Chrismukkah Bar Mitzvukkah idea, Summer's dad makes a special guest appearance and opens the door for a pending love affair storyline with Julie Cooper-Nichols-Cooper, and I'm left wondering how they manage to grow such good looking christmas trees in california. All in all, the best chrismukkah ever.

And in reality tv news, I've never been so pleased with the outcome of an Amazing Race edition before in my life. My favorite team of Linz hotties won, and it was FANTASTIC. Yes, I am officially a dork, I was positively beaming when they won.

she's really smart!

i continue to love the OC and fall more madly in love with seth and summer on a weekly basis. i also wonder why it has taken two and a half seasons of this show for marissa and ryan to kind of sort of finally behave like a somewhat normal couple and actually TALK to each other. and there's strippers and stuff.

speaking of strippers...okay, not really, but i needed an excuse to turn the conversation to women in underwear. for anyone who missed the victoria's secret fashion show last week, BOY did you miss out. now, i like boys as much as anyone, but i am not gonna lie, that one hour of glorious underwear filled tv and my favorite hottie alessandra made me wonder if i wasn't meant to be a lesbian. whew. the show also made me very much want to go underwear shopping, but that's another story...

east coast, west coast

i'm not gonna lie, i adored last week's episode of the OC. it's that time of year when college is on the horizon...seth wants to head east, summer wants to stay west, ryan doesn't know what he wants, and marissa is the worst girlfriend ever as usual AND trashes summer's bedroom and a laptop in the process. taylor townsend is suddenly NICE, and julie cooper gets caught moving into a trailer home. a typical week in the OC.

but wait...if seth is going to brown and summer is going to providence and the most dysfunctional tv couple ever is going to berkeley...what the hell happens to the next season of the OC? i was kind of hoping that everyone ends up at Orange County Community College and we get to see "O.C.: The College Years" next fall. not that that ever worked out too well for 90210, but a girl can dream.

taylor f-ing townsend

do people like taylor townsend actually exist in this world? her character has been crafted in such an unbelievable way that i can't help but wonder where the concept of taylor townsend came from. and seriously, kidnapping captain oats? girl's got some issues to work out.

i came to the realization that 90% of my posts were about the LB, so i'm somewhat at a loss now that the season's over. christina aguilera got married, britney's on her way to broadway, and paris' boyfriend Stavros (aka i-drive-with-my-coat-over-my-face) is being blamed for trashing the Hard Rock hotel at kelly osbourne's 21st birthday party. just your average week of hooplah in tinseltown.

super bowl of stupidness

So surely I don’t need to tell you all that you should be watching Best Week Ever, because you ALL ALREADY KNOW that its one of the best things on television, RIGHT? So hopefully that means that you all caught that bit about TALAN hanging out with PARIS HILTON!?!? To recap for those of you that missed it (though quite frankly, I don’t see how you could considering that in addition to Best Week Ever, it was also on every single entertainment show on tv – AND cnn):

Paris Hilton, her new boyfriend Stavros, Kim Stewart and Talan Torriero get into a Bentley outside some night club in LA. Stavros attempts to drive off with a jacket over his head to hide his face from the paparazzi…and the road. He guns it and slams right into a parked truck. How did that happen? Well, its hard to drive when your VISION is cut off by the JACKET covering your FACE, don’t you think? As if this isn’t bad enough, they drive off in the dented Bentley, only to be pulled over by the cops a few blocks down the road. At this point, the cast of characters is standing outside of the car chatting with the cops and Talan says to the cops – now keep in mind Talan had been sitting in the back seat and NOT the driver’s seat – “I’m the only sober one in the car.” WHAT?!?!? Oh Talan we love you but you are an IDIOT. And of course, then by the miracle that comes along with fame, Paris blows the cops a kiss and off the kids go. No breathalizers, no tickets, no arrests, nothing. God I love Hollywood.

Video of the above can be seen here:
http://us.video.aol.com/video.index.adp?mode=1&pmmsid=1426945

As for the OC, I’ve given up hope that I can watch a single episode of the show without seeing a) Ryan punch someone, and b) Marissa wearing a really insanely low-cut top with no bra on. However, Taylor Townsend’s mom telling her that her ass was not made for low riders was the funniest shit I’ve seen in a long time.

Hey people, some parting words – Evan called you a deadbeat! Did you hear that? Yeah, I’m talking to you. I don’t know who you are, but if you’re reading and not participating, you are a deadbeat reader. This is a group effort guys. I'm not here for my own health. Now what are you going to do about it?

gotta love those sidekicks

I'm all about pleasing my readers, and since at this point in time I think ms. evan constitutes about 33.3% of my existing audience, I'm back for the second time today. First off, yes Jason is a MORON, but at least he admitted that there was a kiss. How ridiculous is Jessica to deny that the kiss ever even happened?

Second order of business -- clearly we all love Summer more than Marissa, and Ashton has proven our point.

And finally -- thank goodness for the OC being back! Cohen and Summer's complicated little scheme seemed to have gone smoother than any lunch plans I've ever tried to make. And seriously, do I need to go to rehab in order to find someone who will buy me a multi-million dollar condo on the beach?

In other non-OC related news, Josh Duhamel was on Regis & Kelly this morning and HOLY CRIPES that guy is F-ING HOT. I mean seriously, holy mother of all things sacred in this world, how do you not love this face?!?!

forever young

Oh the horror, Marissa is off to public school! Newport Union kids are not so nice, and can you imagine the horror of going to a school dance with NO THEME? Absurd. Ryan is jealous, Seth is adorable as usual, and Summer uncovers the truth about Taylor Townsend the social bitch sleeping with Dean Asshole. I could only dream up this kind of high school drama.

Over on the grown up side of town, we learn that Charlotte is a money scheming whore, and Kirsten is going to learn how to cook now that she won’t be working at the Newport Group anymore. As if. Sandy, better get those take out menus ready. Julie Cooper-Nichols-almost-Cooper-again is now poor and homeless, does that make her next in line to need some sort of rehab?

that bitch is going down!

I’m rather enthralled with this season of The OC so far. Whatever will they do now that Marissa and Ryan have gotten kicked out of Harbor High? This last episode reminded me of how much I enjoy the parts of the OC that actually focus on the part about the kids being in school. I mean really, Summer Roberts overthrowing Taylor Townsend as social chair and instituting mini burgers and mini dim sum at the carnival? You can’t buy that kind of entertainment.

I also rather enjoyed that slowed down rendition of California they played at the end of the episode when Marissa and Ryan walked out of the Kick Off Carnival being watched by their former schoolmates. I wonder if getting expelled is going to put a damper on their college applications. Are Ryan and Marissa really going to have sex next week?

Now I know a lot of people aren’t really into the awards show marathons, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy the Emmy’s last night. Aside from the obvious fashion parade that I enjoy watching so much, I don’t think you can even dream up the kind of amusement that is Donald Trump in overalls singing Green Acres with Karen Walker, or the Blue Man Group presenting the award for best reality show. Delighted to see Lost win for best drama series, but at the same time outraged that 24 continues to get snubbed.

On another note, I’m kind of pissed because I set my DVR to record that new show Reunion on Thursday night while I was in California, but apparently there was some special news coverage on instead and then they re-aired Reunion on Friday night but since I was still out on the West Coast I wasn’t able to sneak that into my DVR list. I wasn’t bright enough to set my DVR to record the whole series, instead I had only set it to record the one Thursday episode that never aired. Newman!

we've been on the run...

Thank the lord that the OC season has started again. Oh how I have missed this show. God bless fall television. I can’t see a better way to kick off a new job and a new life than with a new season of fabulous television.

So Trey is not dead, and I have to say that I’m a little disappointed in the producers for going with the soap opera-like effect of zooming in on Trey’s hand and showing the finger twitch. By the way, also kind of confused as to how quickly a comatose Trey was able to get himself out and about to escape from the hospital and get himself on a Vegas-bound bus. Medicine must do wonders these days. Also like how everyone’s solution on this show is to run away. Too bad the kids only got as far as climbing onto Jimmy’s boat before being caught up with.

But enough about Trey – what is the deal with Jeri Ryan as the I’m-obsessed-with-Kirsten fellow alcoholic? Is Kirsten going to spend the entire season in rehab? Is Charlotte a psychopath? Are Kirsten and Charlotte going to become lesbian lovers? And how many men’s fantasies were fulfilled seeing Rachel Bilson in a candy striper uniform? So many questions. It’s going to be a great season kids!

california...

OC tonite! A wonderful way to top off a wonderful day. The cast was on Ellen this morning. Adam Brody is adorable. And since when is Mischa Barton so tall? Or is Ellen just that short? Maybe both. I want Phantom Planet at my wedding.

Totally irrelevant to television, but I just wanted to share that I saw Coldplay on tuesday night and it was the BEST.SHOW.EVER. I just couldn't keep that to myself.

Oprah did a two part special this week on Hurricane Katrina. I cannot even understand the mass catastrophe that has been left behind down there. That bitch. (Katrina, not Oprah.) I hate when Oprah makes me cry.

May Sweeps

I don’t tend to get too worked up over tv shows (sometimes), but I guess I had a moment of weakness because I sure had a good cry over the season finale of OC. I think that after waiting all season for it to happen, the Kirsten-the-drunkie storyline ended being a little more than I could handle, and I’ve never seen the Cohen household quite so serious.

As for Trey – whew, he’s had quite a rough season. First he gets tortured by CTU – almost twice, and then he gets shot in the back by Marissa Cooper…

For those of you who for some ghastly reason have NOT been watching the OC – now is your chance to catch up – during the off season, season two of the OC will be airing two episodes a week, 8 and 9pm on Thursday nights.

Btw, am I supposed to now believe that Dana/Zach is Mike the plumber’s son on Desperate Housewives? Zach creeps me the f#%* out. Although watching him beat Martha Huber’s sister over the head with a hockey stick was rather entertaining.

All these season finales, so sad to have all my shows ending, what the hell am I going to watch all summer?! (aside from baseball. and all those new really bad reality shows coming out.)

Under the O Sea

The whole prom storyline – a little too predictable for me. That being said, I’m rather pleased with the whole thing, although I can’t really quite understand how Summer got to be prom queen when – and not that I don’t love her, because I do, but – the only person she talks to all year long are Marissa, Zach, Seth, and Ryan, WHO, might I add, in all likelihood, probably didn’t even VOTE for homecoming queen. And on that note, what are the chances that comic geek Zach was actually voted homecoming king alongside her? But whatever, it all worked out I suppose.
