oh canada

It was an insane weekend with the Canadians in town and I didn't have a minute to catch up on any of my tv. dammit. Spent most of Saturday outdoors and got attacked by a whole host of mosquitos and other unidentified insects - I've got 5 bites on my left leg alone, and it ain't pretty. Sunday I did touristy stuff with the Canadians that included walking down 5th Avenue, through Times Square, having lunch at Hard Rock Cafe, and accidentally ran into a street fair, which was an added bonus for me. Street fairs are the best -- how can you go wrong with funnel cake and free popcorn samples?

Some tv tidbits I HAVE managed to gather, even though I haven't really actually watched much tv:
- Rob and Amber strike again! Yes, the couple we all love to hate is making a reality tv comeback. Because All Stars Survivor wasn't enough. The Amazing Race wasn't enough. The Romber Wedding Special wasn't enough. They now bring you: The Rob and Amber Project. Rob and Amber move to Vegas so Rob can attempt to become a professional gambler. seriously. I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried. It's disgusting, I know.
- Because ABC likes to torture its viewers, yet another season of The Bachelor premieres this fall in Rome. Featuring a "real Italian prince" as the bachelor (so they say) who claims to be a "cosmetics entrepreneur" but through more extensive research is discovered to actually be an internet retailer of doggie bath products. seriously. Like I said, I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried.
- Dancing With the Stars 3 in September! woohoo!
- They are moving Amazing Race to Sundays. I'm sure this is going to somehow conflict with other sunday night tv in a major way, but I'm not quite sure how just yet. Season 10 starts this fall, and my sister used to work with one of the guys in the token gay couple team. good times.

Hope that is enough to tide you over until I get a chance to catch up on tv... which may not be for a while. Aside from entertaining the Canadians, I will be in St. Louis for the next two days in the sweltering heat. Why I am going to a city where there are still 160,000 people without power (down from 600K last week) is beyond me. One of the great mysteries of life.

friday already?

goodness, where has this week gone? I have not watched anything in the ways of tv this week other than baseball. Wednesday night I had really yummy but potent margaritas in midtown and the tequila did a number on me. Not that it stopped me from then downing some beers with coworkers on thursday.

This morning I met with my real estate lawyer to go over the contract for the condo am attempting to buy, and wrote a check out for a really, really REALLY large sum of money. What is sad is that this really large sum of money only equated to 10% of how much this place is costing me!! Not including all the INSANE banking, lawyer, appraisal, insurance, etc. etc. fees that I will need to pay on top of that of course. A check for almost twice the amount of money that my car cost me (granted all I own is a tiny little toy of a car known as a civic, but still) and it only amounted to TEN percent of the cost of the condo! The insanity.

Crazy storms this week, especially today. I watched from the window of my office as the hot dog cart in front of my building flipped over and the vendor chased his cans of soda down the street. Across the street, the guy with the fruit stand lost one of his two umbrellas and came vicariously close to chasing oranges down the block.

Tonight my Canadian cousin arrives in town and the super chaos begins. Fun stuff.

baseball! hot dogs! apple pie!

We love frozen yogurts, luxury boxes, camera phones and chevrolets. Yeah, can't get that commercial out of my head to save my life. awesome. On top of that, I think I'm in love with David Wright. Could the boy be any more f-ing adorable?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=SANFcm10KhU&search=david%20wright
I LOVE HIM. Aside from watching that clip on YouTube, I had DVRed the actual episode of Letterman that he was on, watched that on my tv as well, and realized that I had a HUGE grin on my face while watching him -- does anyone have any idea when the last time just the SIGHT of a guy made me smile the way David Wright does (aside from Melky)? Yea, neither do I.

Okay, so anyway, caught up on my week's tv, and here's the report:

Entourage - This show isn't nearly as good as it was in its first season, but still entertaining enough to continue watching.
The Hills - What a FANTASTIC episode this week. Love the Jason and Lauren drama. LOVE IT. Christmas and New Years in the Hills. What could be better. Don't any of these kids have families to go home to for christmas though? I'm just saying.
Project Runway - It's back. YES. So much fun. A joy to have this show back in my life, especially for the summer. Challenge #1 involves making an outfit out of materials from their fancy apartments, and the hilarity of them tearing up their apartments and then coming back at the end of the night to find the apartments still torn up was priceless. I bet that was Tim Gunn's idea. Love it!

I think that's it. I survived the All Star Break and baseball is officially in its second half! Yankees swept the White Sox this weekend, which is a huge move. HUGE. Baseball fans know why. And I also officially came one step closer to becoming a responsible poor home owner this past week. Don't want to talk about it too much just yet though, lest I jinx myself. What a long and crazy process this is!

Mascots, gourmet pretzels, retractable roofs and chevrolets...

i've always wanted a rally monkey...

My new favorite commercial that they aired several times during the All Stars game last night and I can't get out of my head:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=_rYXmWY9HY4&search=love%20affair%20commercial

Speaking of the All Stars game, which is technically allowed since it WAS on tv, and this IS a tv blog, I just have some comments:

- The white sneakers that A-Rod wears in the All Stars games, in apparent honor of Gary Carter and Keith Hernandez, are NOT a good look. Thank goodness he wears black sneakers for the rest of the season besides that.
- My crush on David Wright has been intensified watching him the past couple of days during the All Stars break. Love him. His favorite show is 24!
- Mariano Rivera is super cool.

There is no baseball of any sorts across all the league tonight, eek! Perhaps I'll watch Entourage. Season premiere of Project Runway is tonite as well, and The Hills, so I think I'll be okay. It's funny how I have yet to tire watching Heidi be the most inane character to enter the reality tv world ever. Man, it sure is entertaining. I wonder how much longer it is before she gets fired from her job. Actually, is Heidi more inane or is Audrina? hmmm..

ohh we got a tough guy here!

This clip epitomizes my Vegas trip: http://youtube.com/watch?v=mA72F4Wi60Y

New season of Project Runway starts on Wednesday - woohoo! Coincides with the new weekly episode of The Hills, go figure. Nothing on tv anymore, and two out of only three shows worth watching are on at the same time. And this is the reason DVR was invented. Well, that and the fact that both shows are repeated at random times of day throughout the week anyway.

Yay for the All Star break! Currently watching the Home Run Derby and it's must certainly pure entertainment - especially the part where the homers get hit out of the park and end up in the Allegheny River behind PNC Park where a bunch of nutcases are hanging out in canoes waiting for HR balls and promptly throw themselves into the water to chase any balls that splash into the river. David Wright! Hit those homers baby! You can hit a homerun with me anytime babe. Oops, did I say that out loud?

you didn't see aaaanything

Who's the tough guy? Back from Vegas. Well, actually been back for a couple days, but only now am I semi-coherent enough to write about it, and even that is a stretch. Maybe someone else from my trip will write about it for me. Funny how one shows up in Vegas all bright eyed and refreshed and ready for fun, only to come back feeling permanently hungover, haggard, and looking like someone punched me in both my eyes. Detox is a must at this point. I gambled a little and drank a lot, and stuffed myself at the Bellagio Buffet somewhere in the middle of it all. Oh, also had a really tasty burger from In and Out, after which I sat in a car that was telling me it was 127 degrees out on the Strip. Good times. DRINK BITCHES!
